How to cope when you lose in a job interview
I recently applied for an internal role in my company. It was my dream role. This job position involved a lot of reading and writing for hours daily. As a person who enjoys reading and writing and who does it regularly, it is the perfect job.
This job had the potential to catapult my career into a different dimension, one I have been working on for years. So you can imagine my anguish when I was turned down for the role.
First things first, let us analyze if I had done a good job preparing for this interview. This was a completely different role from all the other roles that I was looking for.
I did my research and talked to a couple of experts in the field. I spent hours working on a case study that needed to be submitted as part of the interview process. I thought I had done a fairly good job.
All for nothing.
I received a reply, within a day (to my surprise) that they had shortlisted someone whose background closely fitted their needs.
Disappointing as it is, I knew I would have to wear my big-boy pants and get over it.
The one who falls and gets up is stronger than the one who never tried. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying.
